The Story Behind the Dish
The chocolate chip cookie was invented around 1938 by Ruth Wakefield, who ran the Toll House Inn in Massachusetts with her husband. She chopped up a bar of Nestlé chocolate and stirred it into her butter cookie dough.
The cookies were so popular that Nestlé printed her recipe on its chocolate bars and later started selling chocolate chips made just for baking.
⭐ Why It's Famous
It's America's favourite cookie and one of the most baked recipes in the world.
💡 Fun Fact
Ruth Wakefield let Nestlé use her recipe in exchange for a lifetime supply of chocolate.
