The Story Behind the Dish

📍 Java and Bali, Indonesia📅 Centuries old🍚 ID

In Indonesia, yellow is the color of gold, wealth and good luck. Yellow rice is cooked for birthdays, weddings, harvests and other happy events.

For big celebrations it is shaped into a tall cone called tumpeng, surrounded by side dishes. The top of the cone is cut and given to the most important person at the party.

⭐ Why It's Famous

It is beautiful, fragrant and a symbol of thanks and celebration.

💡 Fun Fact

The tumpeng cone shape is said to represent a mountain, because mountains were seen as the home of the gods in old Javanese belief.
