History & Culture

The Story Behind the Dish

📍 Cuban coast📅 Traditional🦐 CU

In Cuba, 'enchilado' doesn't mean chilli-hot: it refers to seafood cooked in a red creole sauce of tomato and peppers. Cuban cooking generally uses very little hot chilli.

Enchilado de camarones or langosta (lobster) is a celebration dish, especially in coastal towns.

⭐ Why It's Famous

Sweet shrimp in a rich, tangy red sauce, perfect for spooning over rice.

💡 Fun Fact

Cubans abroad are often surprised to find that 'enchilado' in Mexico means spicy, while in Cuba it simply means 'in red sauce'.
