The Story Behind the Dish
Tater tots were invented in 1953 in Oregon, USA, by the founders of a frozen-food company who didn't want to waste the potato scraps left from making fries. The little crispy cylinders became a school-cafeteria legend.
Home cooks borrowed the shape for vegetables: chopped broccoli held together with cheese and egg, baked instead of fried, gives the same crunchy, dippable bite.
⭐ Why It's Famous
The tot shape is a proven winner with kids, and it works with almost any vegetable.
💡 Fun Fact
When tater tots first went on sale they were so cheap that shoppers didn't trust them, so the price was raised and they started to sell.
