The Story Behind the Dish
Asopao, from 'sopa', is a soupy rice dish loved across the Spanish Caribbean. Dominicans make it with chicken, but in coastal towns shrimp asopao is a favourite.
It's served on rainy days, at family gatherings and as a late-night meal after parties.
⭐ Why It's Famous
Warm, comforting and full of seafood flavour, it's a whole meal in a bowl.
💡 Fun Fact
Asopao thickens as it sits, so Dominican cooks always keep extra hot stock nearby to loosen it before serving.
